First Aid Skin Ointment
Why is the Lysine in there? - Lysine has been clinically shown to inhibit the life cycle of the herpes virus. One of the nine essential amino acids that the body doesn't produce on its own, it also has soothing and reparative qualities that make it perfect for use in a topical ointment. Why did you include antioxidant vitamins? - It has been shown that skin responds to topically applied antioxidants, and that the antioxidants can help to prevent free radical damage, even at the skin's surface. Since the healing process, like all other life processes, produces increased amounts of free radicals, we thought we should address the need of this increased damage rate. Vitamin A and E are the classic skin vitamins too. Both have emollient and humectant qualities, which encourage cell regeneration. Vitamin C applied topically is gaining popularity in cosmetic preparations because of its ability to undo skin damage. BHT worries me. I've heard reports of it not being safe. - Firstly, BHT (and its cousin BHA) has been used extensively as a food, beverage, and cosmetic preservative for nearly 40 years. It has been approved by the FDA for use in food and is generally recognized as safe. We have included it in our skin ointment because it, like vitamins A, C, & E, is a potent antioxidant. We feel that the benefit it provides to the skin far outweighs any potential problems. Also, we use it in a concentration of less than 0.5%. Reports that the substance is considered potentially toxic generally are testing the substance at a 100% concentration. I get fever blisters. Can I use it on or near my mouth? - Despite our warning on the packaging, yes you can. The skin ointment does not contain a single ingredient that cannot be eaten. It can be used for certain conditions in the nose, mouth, and ears. The Skin Ointment is pH neutral, so it won't sting. The antiseptic ingredients are all commonly used in preparations to treat a number of delicate conditions, including vaginal yeast infections and other genital infections. Apply the product to the affected area with a cotton swab to prevent contamination of the tube. Can it be used on infants and children? - Absolutely. Skin Ointment is safe and gentle for the whole family to use. It works great during cold season to help heal the chafing and rawness caused by runny noses and abrasive tissues. It also is a fabulous remedy for windburn and sunburn. And because of its antiseptic properties, it makes a terrific first aid cream that won’t sting upon application. |
